Text Box: CONSERVATION TOUR

The Logan County Conservation Districts coordinated a conservation education trip across South East Kentucky and over to Jonesville, Virginia on August 31—September 4, 2009.  There were 41 people that went on the Conservation Education Tour.

The first day stops were:  Mammoth Cave seeing a sinkhole inside out; Walden Farms, Kentucky’s largest Tobacco Barn; and the Houchens Store and Museum.  Second day—Mike Kenney of Kenney Angus in Nancy, KY a very educational field day; Haney’s Appledale Farm; and Dunagan Sheep Farm.  Third Day—Big South Fork Scenic Railway, we took a train and saw the history of the coal mines and how they impacted Kentucky; and Cumberland Gap National Historical Park (The ones that made the hike enjoyed the beauty and seeing three states KY-TN-VA).  Fourth Day—Jonesville, Virginia.  The Daniel Boone Conservation District, NRCS, Virginia Association of Conservation Districts, Wilderness Road State Park, Department of Forestry of Virginia, Department of Game & Inland Fisheries put on a full environmental & agricultural field day, we began at 8:00 a.m. and returned back to Pine Mountain State Park at 9:30 p.m.  The fifth day—We stopped at Cumberland Falls for a quick tour before heading home.
